New Training
Series to Begin in Providence & Warwick
The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association (RIMA) will begin offering
two new series of microbusiness training classes in Warwick and Providence.
The Providence classes begin on Monday evening, March 12th, at the International
Institute on Elmwood Avenue. The new Warwick training classes begin
on Wednesday, April 4th at 6:00 pm at the Warwick Public Library. The
Warwick series is co-sponsored by the Homebased Business Association
of Rhode Island. Classes will continue for four weeks. The training
is led by Professor Kenneth Proudfoot, Director, Larry Friedman International
Center for Entrepreneurship at Johnson & Wales University and Tim Reinke,
President of Thunder Promotions, Inc. The International Institute and
the Warwick Public Library are both handicap accessible.
MicroBusiness
Training Well-Received in Pawtucket
The Association began collaborating with the Capeverdean American Community
Development (CACD) in Pawtucket to offer microbusiness training programs.
These classes are taught by John A. Varella in Capeverdean Creole, Spanish
and English. The first class began on Monday, February 19th with nine
students. The second program began on Friday evening, March 9th with
13 in attendance. Graduation for the Monday morning series of classes
will be held on March 19th at 12 noon. Graduation for the Friday evening
class will be held on March 30th at 8 pm. The CACD is handicap accessible.
Association
To Introduce Web Site At Business Expo 2001
Mark your calendars for Business Expo 2001---April 10th & 11th at
the Rhode Island Convention Center. Expo 2001 is a "must" event for
microentrepreneurs who want to expand their markets, enlarge their networks
and refine their business skills. The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association
will have a booth---#637---to showcase the Association's programs, two
new videos and its new web site (www.rimicroenterprise.org). Be sure
to stop by Booth 637 and meet the owners of some of the state's fastest
growing microbusinesses.

The Association is financially supported by the Rhode Island Human
Resources Investment Council (HRIC), the Rhode Island Foundation, and
Johnson & Wales University. The Association is a member of the Greater
Providence Chamber of Commerce, the Central Rhode Island Chamber of
Commerce, the National Society of Fundraising Executives, and the Association
for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO). The Association is a State Affiliate
of AEO and is posted on the AEO web site. The Association is now recognized
as a Business & Industry Partner of the Greater Providence Chamber of
Commerce and will begin appearing on the Chamber's web site soon.
