Seven MicroEntrepreneurs
Graduate in Pawtucket
Seven new entrepreneurs celebrated their graduation from the Association's
four-week microbusiness training program during a ceremony at the Capeverdean
American Community Development (CACD) in Pawtucket on Monday, March
19th. The graduates are Ana Eunice L. Miranda, Ana M. Varela, Jose F.
Martins, Joao J. Miranda, Jacinto T. Ramos, Maria Celina Varella, and
Marti J. Gastineau. Classes are taught by John A. Varella in Capeverdean
Creole, Spanish, and English. A second training program is continuing
on Friday evenings at the CACD. Graduation for the Friday class will
be held on March 30th at 8 pm. The CACD is handicap accessible.
New Microbusiness
Training in Providence, Pawtucket & Warwick
The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association (RIMA) began a new series
of microbusiness training classes in Providence on March 12th, at the
International Institute on Elmwood Avenue. There are 21 attendees. Classes
will continue for four weeks; graduation is on Monday, April 2, 2001.
A new training program begins Wednesday, April 4th at 6pm at the Warwick
Public Library in Warwick. A new training class begins on Monday, April
23rd at 10:30 am at the Capeverdean American Community Development in
Pawtucket. A new training program begins on Monday, April 23rd at 6pm
at the International Institute in Providence. All of these facilities
are handicap accessible.
Taping Completed
for Association's Two New Videos
Joe Rocco of RocJo Productions completed taping on March 12th for two
new videos being produced by the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association.
One video will feature microentrepreneurs talking about the training
offered by the Association. A second video focuses on getting additional
financial support for the program. It features Dr. Lee Arnold, Director
of the state's Department of Labor & Training; William Shuey; Executive
Director of the International Institute of Rhode Island; Susan Connery,
Director of the Feinstein Community Service Center; James Hagen, President
of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and President of the Rhode
Island Chamber of Business & Industry; David Karoff of the Rhode Island
Foundation; and Renee Fullerton, Director of the Homebased Business
Association of Rhode Island. The videotape is now in the editing process.
The videos will debut at the Business Expo 2001 on April 10 & 11.
Association's
Web Site to Debut At Business Expo 2001
Business Expo 2001---April 10th & 11th at the Rhode Island Convention
Center---will feature the microentrepreneurs and the new web site of
the Association. The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association will have
Booth #637 to showcase the Association's programs, its graduates, two
new videos and its new web site (www.rimicroenterprise.org). Owners
of some of the state's fastest growing microbusinesses will be present,
including Jane E. Poulin, Tim & Kate Reinke, Janna R. VanDorick, Stephen
Maciel, Geneva Urquhart, Ami Coli, John A. Varella, and Jacinto Ramos.
