The Rhode Island
MicroEnterprise Association, in partnership with community-based organizations
located throughout the state, provides free microbusiness training and
business technical assistance to persons wishing to start their own small
business. Our services are accessible by the owners of more than 10,000
microbusinesses and home-based businesses in Rhode Island.

Director Lobbies for Federal Funding for programs in support of MicroBusiness
before Congress in Washington DC
Ann Marie Marshall, Director of the MicroEnterprise Association, along
with members of AEO (Association for Enterprise Opportunity) traveled
to Washington DC to lobby before Congress, including Representative
Jim Langevin and Patrick Kennedy and Senators Jack Reed and Lincoln
Chafee of Rhode Island to continue funding microenterprise development
programs essential for the creation of jobs and income for Americans.
The four major federal programs that support the microenterprise field
and microentrepreneurs are: Microloan Lending and Technical Assistance,
PRIME (Program for Investment in MicroEntrepreneurs), Women's Business
Centers and the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI).
New Program
Manager Joins the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association
Isabel Diaz has joined The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association
as Program Manager. She will oversee and direct each of the community-based
microbusiness training programs around the State. Isabel has a background
in microbusiness and homebased business activities in Rhode Island and
shares a vision for advancing the development of activities and resources
to support the development of this economic sector.
Eighteen
New Micro Entrepreneurs Graduate In The Month of February
Owners of eighteen new and future business celebrated their graduation
from a 4-session microbusiness training programs during the month of
February. Graduations were held at the East Bay Chamber in partnership
with MOSAICO CDC in Warren, The International Institute of RI in Providence
and the Warwick Public Library in Warwick. The future business owners
completed classes that included instruction in marketing, business planning
and finances.
