Director Ready
to Champion Entrepreneurship as Ed Program for K-12
Ann Marie Marshall, state director of the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise
Association returned from the 20th Annual Consortium for Entrepreneurship
Education energized by the national movement to include business development
programs in curriculum across all grade levels. At the four-day conference
held in Charlotte, N.C., Marshall learned that other parts of the country
are well ahead of the East in building educational programs around entrepreneurship.
"It's a fast-growing movement to get entrepreneurship into all high
school, K-12 and community colleges," Marshall says. "I intend to look
into implementing new state legislation to recognize entrepreneurship
education, and get programs into the curriculum in all 70 of the state's
high schools."
While at the conference that included delegations from Japan, England,
and Canada as well as all 50 states, Marshall received certification
for 16 hours of professional training on entrepreneurship curriculum,
policies, new funding resources and political issues surrounding the
subject.
