RHODE ISLAND MICROENTERPRISE ASSOCIATION (RIMA) 645 Elmwood Avenue - Providence, RI 02907 - 401-383-7940 NUMBER 17 - SPECIAL EDITION 4 - BUSINESS EXPO 2003 Ann Marie Marshall - CEO / State Director The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, in partnership with community-based organizations located throughout the state, provides free microbusiness training and business technical assistance to persons wishing to start their own small business. Our services are accessible by the owners of more than 10,000 microbusinesses and home-based businesses in Rhode Island. ANN MARIE MARSHALL SELECTED AS THE 2003 HOME-BASED BUSINESS ADVOCATE TO BE HONORED AT THE RHODE ISLAND SALUTE TO SMALL BUSINESS! Ann Marie Marshall, State Director of the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association has been named Home-based Business Advocate of the Year from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The annual week long Rhode Island Salute to Small Business celebration will take place during the month of May. This year, small business owners and advocates will be honored during the Rhode Island Small Business Alliance (RISBA) Dinner at the Rhode Island Convention Center. National Small Business Week, as designated by the President of the United States each year since 1963, highlights the contributions small businesses make to America's economy. Congratulations Ann Marie! BUSINESS EXPO 2003 BOOTH #637 FEATURES MICROENTREPRENEURS The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association will have Booth # 637 to showcase the Association's programs, its graduates and its web site. Owners of some of the state's fastest growing microbusinesses will be present, including, Sandra Giraldo of Bivalvi Jewelry, Michael Lalli of Ocean Side Catering, Ada Ezeama of Nurses R US, John and Celina Varella of BRAVA Employment Agency, Terry Wildemann of Transformational Leadership of New England, and Mary Lee Heroux and Robert Scott Davey of Fly Wheels. Also attending are MicroBusiness Graduates Charlene and Tim Giles. MicroBusiness Trainers Matthew G. Kenney, and Jeff Mason will also be present. Marjorie Briody and Mary F. Carmody will also be attending from the Office of Advancement at Johnson & Wales University. The Association's Program Developer, Kenneth N. Proudfoot will also be present along with Johnson & Wales University Entrepreneurship student Noel Poirier, of Drastik Tactiks Skate Company. This is the third year the Association is participating in the Business Expo. STUDENTS JOIN THE ASSOCIATION THROUGH THE COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM AT JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY Jesse Twarjan and Liz Ofori, studying Entrepreneurship and Chime Dolam studying Marketing at Johnson & Wales University, have joined the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association through the Community Service Learning Program.
