The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, in partnership with community-based organizations located throughout the state, provides free microbusiness training and business technical assistance to persons wishing to start their own small business. Our services are accessible by the owners of more than 10,000 microbusinesses and home-based businesses in Rhode Island.

RHODE ISLAND MICROENTERPRISE ASSOCIATION, INC. Moves to New Offices & Expands Operations

The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Inc. moved to new offices on August 1st in its continuing efforts to expand the availability of microbusiness training and enterprise education services to Rhode Island residents. The Association moved its statewide headquarters from a space at Johnson & Wales University to new offices at the International Institute of Rhode Island, 645 Elmwood Avenue, in Providence.

Ann Marie Marshall, CEO and State Director of the Association, said, "We are beginning our fourth year of operation and are looking forward to continuing to expand our services and outreach to the state's home-based and microbusiness owners. This new location will provide us with office space, classrooms, and presentation rooms to offer our education programs to more people every year. We will add five new microbusiness training sites this year for a total of 25 locations statewide and also offer our Youth Entrepreneurship Program in ten high schools beginning in September." The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Inc. is the fastest-growing statewide microbusiness training program in the country!

GUERRILLA FINANCING SEMINARS A SUCCESS!

On July 25th, fourteen MicroBusiness graduates completed a special Guerrilla Financing and Financial Independence Program presented by MicroBusiness Trainer Marylou Berry Roche. This workshop shows entrepreneurs how to take charge of their finances and how to fund and finance any type of business using some of the more than 100 business financing strategies offered in this program. The 2-day seminar was a success with rave reviews from graduates with comments such as, "These programs are outstanding," "As usual, Marylou's knowledge is impressive; experience counts!," I think this program speaks for itself--it's excellent!," and "Great training, insightful and inspirational!" NEW MICROBUSINESS CLASSES SCHEDULED FOR FALL!

The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Inc. has scheduled twelve MicroBusiness and Homebased business workshops for the months of September, October, and November. The Association is also happy to announce that 51, 4-session workshops were presented this past year (Year 3), which nearly doubled the 26 4-session workshops delivered in Year 2. MICROENTERPRISE MAKING BUSINESS START-UP AN OPTION FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

Thirteen R.I. high school students with disabilities took part in four days of events at Camp Conanicus in Exeter, R.I. at the second annual Rhode Island Youth Leadership Forum. Students took part in educational programs on developing self-esteem, choosing a career, recognizing the history of disability as a culture, tapping into financial resources, using technology to promote independence and developing a leadership plan for success. The forum included a wonderful luncheon at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick featuring guest speakers, including Honorary Chairman, Rep. James Langevin (D-RI); Barbara Morse of NBC10 and key leaders in the disability community. The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Inc. discussed starting a business with an entrepreneurial spirit as a career path for students. One of the goals of the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Inc. is to make business development education accessible to people of all ages and all conditions.

ASSOCIATION ATTENDS BUSINESS LEADERS DAY IN DC!

The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Inc. attended Business Leaders Day on September 10, 2003 in Washington, DC. Hosted by Senator Jack Reed (D-R.I.). The program featured speakers from the legislature, numerous federal programs and other institutions. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about current issues and challenges facing business and government. The speakers included Jennifer Duffy of The Cook Report, Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, Senator Susan Collins of Maine, Senator John Warner of Virginia, Senator Harry Reid (Nevada), Senator Debbie Stabenow (Michigan), Melanie Sabelhaus, Deputy Administrator of the SBA, Senator Dick Durbin (Illinois), General Barry R. McCaffrey (Ret.), Norman J. Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute, Representatives Patrick Kennedy and James Langevin of Rhode Island, and Senator Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island.

Attendees from the Association included, MicroBusiness Trainer, John Varella, CEO/State Director, Ann Marie Marshall, Development Director, Kenneth Proudfoot, and State Director of Youth Entrepreneurship, Michelle Kulikowski.
