RHODE ISLAND MICROENTERPRISE ASSOCIATION (RIMA) 645 Elmwood Avenue - Providence, RI 02907 - 401-383-7940 #22 - April, 2004 Ann Marie Marshall - CEO / State Director The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, in partnership with community-based organizations located throughout the state, provides free microbusiness training and business technical assistance to persons wishing to start their own small business. Our services are accessible by the owners of more than 10,000 microbusinesses and home-based businesses in Rhode Island. CENTURY TIME CAPSULE-BOOTH #538 The Century Time Capsule at booth #538 will be dedicated on December 3, 2005 at the Gilbert Stuart Museum and Birth Place in Saunderstown, Rhode Island. We are collecting names and donations for this time capsule. Our goal is one million names! The Century Time Capsule is a project of the Gilbert Stuart Museum and the Rhode Island Youth Entrepreneurship Program. All of the funds collected-100%-- will be used to restore the Gilbert Stuart Museum and support the high school Youth Entrepreneurship Program. The time capsule will be opened on December 3, 2055 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Gilbert Stuart's Birth. We would also like to thank the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, Business and Industry for their continuous support of the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, Inc. SHOW VISITORS EXCEED EXPECTATIONS! Overwhelming crowds visited the MicroEnterprise Booth on the first day of the Providence Business Expo! Hundreds of people added their names to the century time capsule that supports the Gilbert Stuart Museum and the Rhode Island Youth Entrepreneurship Program. The new MicroEnterprise Spring calendar of MicroBusiness Training classes for April, May and June is now available online at www.rimicroenterprise.org. Hard copies are also available at Booth #538 at the Providence Business Expo. We are also offering Specialty Guerrilla Financing /Financial Independence Training Workshops. Several new locations have been added including the Newport Public Library. MICROENTERPRISE DAY 2004 FEATURES NEWPORT MAYOR! The 2nd annual Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Day at Ocean Side Café in Newport was a tremendous success. Mayor Richard Sardello, Mayor of Newport, joined the celebration to honor MicroBusinesses in Rhode Island and also to congratulate Michael Lalli and David Downes, graduates of the Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Training Program and co-owners of Ocean Side Café. The exciting event welcomed special guest Kenneth K. McKay, IV, Chief of Staff of the Governor's Office who read the proclamation from the Governor declaring March 30th Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Day. Sardello and McKay were joined by Representative Maxine Bradford Shavers who read a citation from the Rhode Island House of Representatives to the owners of Ocean Side Café. Ann Marie Marshall, State Director of Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, Inc. awarded Michael Lalli and David Downes the 1st annual Rhode Island Outstanding MicroBusiness Award. Congratulations and best wishes for continued success to Michael Lalli and David Downes!
