The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, in partnership with community-based organizations located throughout the state, provides free microbusiness training and business technical assistance to persons wishing to start their own small business. Our services are accessible by the owners of more than 10,000 microbusinesses and home-based businesses in Rhode Island.

AMERICAN EXPRESS AWARDS $10,000 GRANT

The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Inc. received a $10,000 grant from American Express to teach financial independence and guerrilla financing to residents around the state. The grant is the largest given to an organization in Rhode Island. Classes will begin in the months of April and June 2005.

GILBERT STUART 2005 CAMPAIGN RAISES $5,000 WITH CAKE
Partners in the Gilbert Stuart 2005 campaign met at the Rhode Island State House on December 1st to commemorate the 249th birthday of portrait artist Gilbert Stuart. Slices of cake were sold to friends and supporters around the state to raise $5,000 toward a one million dollar goal. The group will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Stuart's birth on December 3, 2005. For more information, please call 401-383-7940.

YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP FEATURED IN PROVIDENCE JOURNAL

The Youth Entrepreneurship Program and Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association Director Ann Marie Marshall were mentioned in a December 2nd Providence Journal feature article on the Gilbert Stuart 2005 event. The article featured a photo of the Director. The article also highlighted the excellent baking skills of recent MicroBusiness training graduate, Nancy Sepe of North Scituate, RI. Ms. Sepe created six cakes, including one featuring a hand-drawn portrait of Gilbert Stuart. The wedding cake and biscotti maker is the owner of Nancy's Fancies.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW MICROBUSINESS GRADUATES!

The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, Inc. congratulates the graduates of the MicroBusiness Training Program held on November 8,15,22 an 29 at the International Institute of Rhode Island. Those completing the program are Audrey Dominques, Abi bola Adeyefa "Bola", Ana Calla, Sean Bailey, and Barbara Anderson. This class was taught by MicroBusiness Trainer, Kenneth Proudfoot. Congratulations!
