The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association, Inc., in partnership with community-based organizations statewide, delivers microbusiness training and business technical assistance to persons wishing to start or grow their own small business. Our services are accessible by the owners of more than 75,000 microbusinesses and home-based businesses in Rhode Island.

New MicroEnterprise Statistics Released

Rhode Island Tops 84,000 MicroBusinesses!

Rhode Island has more microenterprises than ever according to new numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The figures, compiled from the latest federal statistics (2004) and reported by the Association for Enterprise Opportunity, showed there were 84,152 microenterprises in Rhode Island. Of these, there are 29,933 businesses with employees. These figures are a 12.2% increase over the 2000 U.S. Census numbers that said Rhode Island had 75,000 microenterprises. Providence County led the way with 44,395 microenterprises, followed by Kent County with 13,632 and Washington County with 12,822. The East Bay had a total of 13,303 microenterprises: Bristol County with 4,672 and Newport County boasting 8,631.  The Rhode Island MicroEnterprise Association offers classes and technical assistance to all of these microentrepreneurs.

NEW!!---SALES GROWTH WORKSHOPS: Ken Proudfoot, marketing consultant, is conducting a weekly SALES GROWTH WORKSHOP 2007 at the Association offices each Tuesday morning from 9-10am. He will assist any business owner or manager to develop an integrated marketing plan to help strengthen their customer relationships and increase sales during 2007 (and beyond). Several future entrepreneurs attended a recent MicroBusiness seminar at the North Kingstown Free Library.  This is one in a statewide series of seminars and workshops presented each month in partnership with local community-based organizations.
